Southwest Recreation Center
Address:
12600 South 4700 West, Riverton City, UTNarrative:
Salt Lake County is constructing a new recreational facility to house indoor recreational activities for residents in the Southwest portion of the County. The new facility will lie at the heart of three communities, providing Riverton, Herriman and Bluffdale residents access to a new lap pool, leisure pool, locker rooms, family changing rooms, exercise / aerobics room, fitness center, and drop-in child care area. Amenities in the new facility will provide patrons with a safe, comfortable and accessible environment for indoor recreating.
In 2007 Salt Lake County adopted a new set of design and construction standards and procedures. The Southwest Recreation Center will be constructed under the US Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System which is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality.
In late 2008 Salt Lake County was informed the orginial location for the Southwest Recreation Center would have to be changed. The new facility would interfere with the development of the Mountain View Coridoor. A new site location was sought out - delaying design and development until the current location in Herriman's town center was decided upon.
Budget:
- TOTAL FUNDED AMOUNT: $20,166,035
- ESTIMATED CONSTRUCTION COST: $16,127,000
